The official X account of BNB Chain was recently compromised in a cyberattack, with hackers using images of Binance founder Changpeng Zhao to promote a meme coin and share fraudulent AirDrop links. The attackers aimed to trick investors into connecting their wallets to malicious sites.
BNB Chain’s security team confirmed it is working with X to regain access and remove harmful links, while warning users not to click on suspicious content. The incident comes as BNB Chain has been gaining traction with real-world asset tokenization projects, making the breach especially disruptive for investors.
In response, Zhao took to his personal X account, stressing that the compromised posts were phishing attempts and urging users to verify domains carefully. He reassured the community that security teams were coordinating with the platform and filing official requests to suspend malicious sites. Zhao ended with a reminder to “always stay SAFU.”
Following the breach, BNB briefly fell 1.83% to $1,010 but managed to hold above the critical $1,000 support level. Meanwhile, Bitcoin stayed above $114,000, though market volatility remains elevated amid growing concerns over a potential U.S. government shutdown.
